WHAT IS POLARiTV

“The goal of POLARiTV is to help each other, and get our content to the right audiences. If we work together, we’ll all get better”
- Adam Plante, POLARiTV

POLARiTV.com is network of podcasts. Not sure what a Podcast is? Podcasting is the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio or video programs, over the Internet using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers. The term, coined in 2004, is a portmanteau of iPod and broadcasting. (wikipedia)

One might say “So there are other podcast networks. so what.” Here’s what.

POLARiTV.com is all about transparency. We will not only make cool shows. (Here’s the part where I start refering to podcasts as shows. I’ll do this from here on out.) We will also film us creating them. In a way, POLARiTV.com is a documentary of the creation of podcast network. We will be blogging about our progress (or lack there of) as go. It is a project and a network.

SOME HISTORY

It pretty much started with The Best Damn Tech Show Period. We were doing a podcast about tech and started getting more ideas. Too many ideas to fit into one show. Drew started scriggity and even more ideas kept comming.

That was pretty much it until we attended the first Podcamp in Boston. There we met a lot of cool people (Chris Brogan, Steve Garfield, etc.) and got all hyped up about podcasting. Then we got this idea. There’s all these cool podcasts and general talent out there, but not everyone who makes podcasts knows how to get it out there. We decided that POLARiTV.com could be a network to help people get their shows out to the net. Yeah there’s youtube and all that, but for some formats, youtube leaves a bit to be desired.

Here’s where the documentary part comes in. Not everybody can fit on POLARiTV.com Sure we are always looking for more new shows, but we can only devote so much time to so many shows. To help those who we can’t work with directly, we decided to film the making of our shows (whenever possible) and show everyone the “behind the scenes” as go. That way people could learn about the process we used and apply our successes and failures along the way to their process. Kind of like the open source philosophy applied to building a podcast network.
